DUHOK, Kurdistan Region - Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is set to lead a delegation to the United Kingdom on Monday after being invited by his British counterpart.

A statement from Sudani’s office said he will meet with King Charles III, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and senior British officials.

“This visit aims to enhance cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom, with the agenda including the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields, particularly in economic, investment, and security sectors,” read the statement.

Sudani is joined by a high-level delegation, including ministers, members of parliament, the governor of Basra, advisors, and representatives from the private sector, as well as business leaders from various industries.

In late December, an unprecedented security agreement was signed between Iraq and the UK to enhance the cooperation over Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s border security to curb people smuggling and narcotics trade.

Iraq and the UK share strong relations. The two countries signed a Strategic Partnership in 2021, aimed at increasing cooperation in the economy, education, military and security, and other sectors.
